Bansagar dam is located on sone river in the state of Madhya Pradesh in india. It is a multipurpose valley project which is used for irrigation as well as hydroelectric power generation of 435 MW.
The height of bansagar dam is 67 m and it is 1020 m in length. Bansagar dam is constructed close to deoland village in the shahdol district. Dam is operated by water reservoir department of Madhya Pradesh. Dam creates the bansagar reservoir . Sanskrit scholar of 7th century bana Bhatt who belongs to this place is the person after whom bansagar dam is named . On 14 may 1978 , Foundation stone is laid by former pm morarji Desai . Construction work of bansagar dam was started in 1978. Total cost of bansagar dam was around 1054 crores . Dam is the main source of irrigation for states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Dam is surrounded by district named as rewa,katni and satna. On 25 September 2006 bansagar dam is dedicated to nation by former pm atal bihari vajpayee. Initially it was known as dimba project by the central water commission. It is a huge dam with great importance .
